Miguel Giraldo, a 20-year-old Kissimmee resident, received a 22-year prison sentence after being convicted on 20 counts of possession of child sexual abuse materials (CSAM). The prosecution successfully argued against defense attempts to secure a reduced sentence based on Giraldo's status as a "youthful offender."

The investigation began on September 4, 2024, when the Florida Department of Law Enforcement received a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children indicating that Giraldo was uploading CSAM to his Snapchat account. During the investigation, Giraldo admitted to sending CSAM via his Snapchat account, and forensic analysis of his cell phone revealed additional files depicting sexual abuse of children as young as two years old.

Despite defense arguments for leniency based on Giraldo's age, the court imposed the full 22-year sentence without granting a downward departure. The sentencing hearing included testimony from defense doctors, family members, and the FDLE case agent following Giraldo's plea to the bench. He will serve his sentence in the Florida Department of Corrections.

The case represents part of Florida's broader crackdown on online predators who exploit social media platforms to distribute illegal content. The investigation demonstrates how law enforcement agencies coordinate with national organizations like the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to track down offenders who use popular social media applications to commit crimes against children.

"In Florida, child predators will be caught and held accountable every single time," said Attorney General James Uthmeier. "This multi-decade sentence is what this predator deserved, and we are glad the Court refused to grant a downward departure on his sentence. I am grateful to Senior Assistant Statewide Prosecutor Lauryn Day for ensuring this vile predator is off the streets and away from our kids."

The case highlights the ongoing challenges law enforcement faces with social media platforms being used to distribute illegal content involving minors. The successful prosecution required coordination between multiple agencies and forensic analysis of digital evidence to build a comprehensive case against Giraldo.
