CHICAGO (LN) — Boeing faces a $64 million judgment in the Ethiopian Airlines Flight ET 302 crash litigation after a jury returned a $49.5 million verdict in favor of the estate of Samya Stumo.

The joint motion for entry of judgment filed Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois seeks to add $14.46 million in prejudgment interest to the $49.5 million compensatory damages awarded on May 13.

The motion, filed by Michael Stumo and Nadia Milleron as personal representatives of the Estate of Samya Stumo, requests the court enter judgment against Boeing for a total of $64.0 million.

The parties agreed that each side would bear its own attorneys’ fees and costs.

The verdict comes in the consolidated multidistrict litigation overseen by Judge Jorge L. Alonso, which has seen numerous cases proceed to trial following the 2019 crash.

The motion cites Section 2-1303(c) of the Illinois Code of Civil Procedure to justify the prejudgment interest calculation, which amounts to 6 percent annually for 1,777 days.

The filing lists Winston & Strawn LLP and Perkins Coie LLP as counsel for Boeing, and Kline & Specter P.C. as lead counsel for the plaintiffs.

The estate of Samya Stumo is one of several families pursuing claims in the Illinois federal court, where the bulk of the crash-related litigation has been centralized.
