SAN FRANCISCO (LN) — The U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation on Tuesday issued a conditional transfer order moving two additional cases to the Northern District of California for coordinated pretrial proceedings media adolescent addiction litigation.
The conditional transfer order, CTO-78, filed May 5, 2026, moves the new actions into MDL No. 3047, which has been assigned to U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers since the panel first transferred 20 actions to the district in October 2022.
The order states that it appears the actions involve questions of fact common to the cases previously assigned to Judge Rogers. The panel cited its original October 6, 2022, ruling as the basis for the transfer under 28 U.S.C. § 1407.
The two cases join the more than 300 civil actions previously transferred to the Northern District of California. The litigation centers on allegations that social media platforms designed their products to addict young users, causing personal injury.
The schedule attached to the order lists two cases from the District of Minnesota: Reuben v. Meta Platforms, Inc. and C.C. v. Meta Platforms, Inc. Both cases were filed in 2026.
The transfer order does not become effective until it is filed with the clerk of the Northern District of California. The panel stayed the transmittal for seven days to allow parties to file a notice of opposition. If no opposition is filed, the cases will be formally added to the MDL docket.
Judge Rogers has overseen the early stages of the litigation, which involves dozens of plaintiffs suing major technology companies including Meta, TikTok, and X.
