U.S. District Judge William Shubb signed the order approving the plan of allocation submitted by plaintiffs Shannon Ray, Khala Taylor, Peter Robinson, Katherine Sebanne, and Rudy Barajas. The order, dated May 11, 2026, follows a fairness hearing held May 11, 2026, where the court heard oral arguments on the motion for final approval of the class action settlement.
The court found that the formula for calculating the claims of claimants "provides a fair and reasonable basis upon which to allocate the proceeds of the Net Settlement Fund among Class Members."
The judge concluded that the plan of allocation is "in all respects, fair and reasonable to the Class."
Notice of the proposed plan was mailed or emailed to potential settlement class members and nominees, and posted on the settlement website, ncaavolunteercoachlawsuit.com. The court determined this method satisfied the requirements of Rule 23 of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, due process, and all other applicable laws.
The plan of allocation was originally submitted on November 10, 2025, and resubmitted on April 6, 2026. The underlying settlement agreement was dated November 10, 2025.
The court reserved jurisdiction over any matters related to or ancillary to the order.
